The Sattrīyā dance is a Classical Dance Form of India. It is one of the eight principal classical dance forms of India, nourished in the Sattra monasteries of Assam.
Dr. Devika Borthakur has been professionally involved in the field of Art and Culture from last 15 years. She has completed a research work (PhD) on Performing Arts on the topic ‘A comparative study of two classical dance forms of India: Bharatnatyam and Sattrīyā’ .

The Sattrīyā dance is a Classical Dance Form of India. In the period of 16th century Srimanta Śanͦkaradeva has established the cultural- religious institution called ‘Sattra’. In these Sattra monastries the Sattriya dance was nourished.
The Bharatnatyam dance form is one of the oldest dance form of India. The dance techniques of Bharatnatyam is very closely related to the principles of ancients Shastras. This dance form can bloom a dancer to various dimensions.
The Teaching of this dances aims to develop the sense of rhythm , enjoyment and love for dance. Creative dance is for experimental choreographies to bring new ideas. Here various styles of Indian dancing are incorporated.

Under the guidance of Dr. Devika Borthakur the Senior Students of Adī who are continuously learning Sattriya Dance have formed a Professional Sattriya Dance group as – Pune Sattriya Team. From last few years this team has been performing at Various prestigious festivals at National level and getting appreciation from Art Lovers. The Team is also under continuous guidance from Sattriya Experts – Ustad Bishmillah Khan Awardee Guru Naren Baruah and Guru Paramananda Kakoty Barbayan from Assam.
